Bongi Sibeko, an extraordinary woman from Standerton with a heartbeat for children, decided to make a difference. Instead of choosing promotion she quite a promising teaching career to dedicate her life, resources and energy to the needs of poor and abandoned children. She and her husband, Themba, acquired premises in Rooikoppen, the poorest, most crime stricken area in Sakhile, Standerton. She left herhouse in Standerton to live in ashack amongst the poorest of poor.
It all started off as a small evangelical ministry to provide hope for the hopeless, food for the hungry and shelter for the homeless. Today they are providing food for up to 70 children per day. They give themselves unconditionally to these kids and surrounding area and offer love, protection, guidance, advise, encouragement and hope to the community. A light is switched on in the dark!
The next phase of her vision is to grow a vegetable garden for healthy children. Children smile again and have hope! There is life w orth living. Love in action!
Sahara Sand and an award winning Construction Company in Standerton, partnered with Hearts4Standerton to assist the Rooikoppen 'Saving Grace' Project. They offered there time and material to build a 90 square meter brick building to improve the conditions for the children in Rooikoppen!
We plan to finish this building project end of November where after we will equip the kitchen and 'playroom' for the children.
The next step we will build rooms for the children that sleep in the shack at the moment.
SAHARA SAND is a company that employs many local people and serves the community on a corporate and private level as such, it would be wrong to turn our back on the community – “we have a broader role to play that is not strictly commercial”--
Sahara Sand wants to improve the standards of education in Standerton.
One of the schools that Sahara Sand supports is Cosmos Private Academy and this school is based in Kosmos Park Standerton Mpumalanga.
Sahara Sand plans for this school is a sport field for the children as for this moment the school has no facilities for Sport activities.
Sahara Sand is also planning to help build more learning centers because the school is growing in a alarming rate and the schools have not enough learning centers.
